NO, TARP Was An Awful Idea And NOT A Success.

TARP_1TARP WORKED!!!  Thank the lord.  Some of the headlines do a good job of capturing the level of ignorance that persists in the world of punditry. "TARP: A success none dare mention" one writes while "TARP's Success Proves Washington's Talent" writes another  Oh brother, TARP is continuing to bamboozle people to this day, perhaps we can clear it up once and for all.  By continuing to promote these falsities the writers are also promoting the savior Big Government and instilling within the American populace an idea that any crisis regardless of size can be defeated by the wisdom of our politicians.  These propagandists fail on both accounts, first out of common sense and second for economic reasons.

First reason - the common sense. Just because *some* banks have been paying TARP back with interest never made it a good idea.  My analogy is the following.  Imagine if Congress offered each unemployed American an opportunity to play for 1 million dollars through a game of Russian roulette.  The game is simple, you take a Magnum and put one bullet into it, spin the chamber, point the gun to your head and pull the trigger.  If brains do not fly across the kitchen table you collect 1 million dollars.   Let's imagine that the first five desperate people taking the offer get lucky and are 5 million dollars richer. That is in essence the level of argument that some are making in defense of TARP.

In our imaginary case, just because brain particles were prevented from flying due to sheer luck did not make the blatantly stupid offer a good idea!  TARP could have failed miserably and sucked out hundreds of billions of dollars down the toilet,  hundreds of billions that America did not have.  Despite that cheer leading, LA Times reports, TARP will cost 50 billion and is a net loser.  But the costs FAR exceed 50 billion, let me show you why.

America, Did You Hear About The Recent Tax Increase?

Posted by Arkady On 11/04/2010 10:14:00 PM

Yeah, we just had a tax hike and it was pretty damn big.  You must be confused, what tax hike, nothing happened in Congress.  Well in case the picture does not give it away, this tax increase was not done by Congress, it was done by the Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke.  He announced it yesterday and here is the relevant information:

The Committee will maintain its existing policy of reinvesting principal payments from its securities holdings. In addition, the Committee intends to purchase a further $600 billion of longer-term Treasury securities by the end of the second quarter of 2011, a pace of about $75 billion per month.

This will be done because our economy is struggling and housing is depressed, a rather bleak economic assessment, but one that is strangely similar to that of 2008.  After all the spending and all the Fed's machinations we are still struggling and still searching for a recovery, yet instead of reversing course and exploring a different strategy our Central Bank prefers to double down on previous failures.

This action is a direct assault on your life, especially those in the lower and middle classes.  If you have savings of any kind, if you barely make ends meet - what was announced today spells disaster for you.  Even if you have not paid any federal taxes last year, got exemptions from the government and are receiving aid - Ben Bernanke just levied a tax you.  A nasty tax.  How nasty?

Patriot's Most Hated Incumbents

TOP 10 MOST WANTED

INCUMBENT REPRESENTATIVES/SENATORS UP FOR REELECTION

With passions at their peak and our movement in full force, it is open season on all incumbents.   We present to you our non-official "Top 10 Most Wanted" based on responses we've received from our readers; #1 being the worst offender in their opinion. This November will be pivotal and historic. While no incumbent should go unweeded, these notorious constitutional-offenders (and, in some cases, criminals) are worthy of national attention. Therefore, while it is the duty of their constituents to ensure these individuals retire, these modern-day "Red Coats" have affected all of us and our families' liberties and they constitute what we call "national elections."

We rely heavily on boots-on-the-ground information, so if you or anyone you know have tips on the candidate to watch in these elections or news on the election as it breaks, please post the information in the "comments" section below the incumbent's article. A few of the rankings had 2-way ties...

**UPDATE**

Due to the time constraints of our campaign work, we unable to give due justice to the last of the incumbents on our list.  Instead we'll simply offer a "best of" from the incumbents past and link to the page of their challenger.

eth·ics

"–plural noun
1.  (used with a singular or plural verb) a system of moral principles: the ethics of a culture.
2.  the rules of conduct recognized in respect to a particular class of human actions or a particular group, culture, etc.: medical ethics; Christian ethics.
3.  moral principles, as of an individual: His ethics forbade betrayal of a confidence.
4. (usually used with a singular verb) that branch of philosophy dealing with values relating to human conduct, with respect to the rightness and wrongness of certain actions and to the goodness and badness of the motives and ends of such actions."

We felt the need to start this article off with the definition of the word ethics, as this tenured Congressman of 40 years has proven that he doesn't know the meaning of the word.  Despite facing hearings in the house on 13 different ethics violationss he's still running for another term in Congress.  As if numerous ethics violations weren't enough, Rangel treats the American public and media with the type of disdain and arrogance that would make Barney Frank proud.

To catch everyone up to speed, we offer the follow video montage which we lovingly refer to as the evolution of hubris:

For added humor, we felt the need to include his actual voting record:

Representative Rangel supported the interests of NARAL Pro-Choice America 100% in 2009.

Representative Rangel supported the interests of the National Right to Life Committee 0% in 2007-2008.

National Rifle Association gave Representative Rangel a grade of F, in its scorecard for candidates seeking office in 2008.

Representative Rangel supported the interests of the Citizens Against Government Waste 0% in 2008.

Representative Rangel supported the interests of the American Civil Liberties Union 100% in 2007-2008.

P.S.  Charlie Rangel tried to bring back the draft in 2004 to make George Bush look bad.

P.P.S. Here is a delightful picture of Charlie Rangel passed out on a beach while taking a ethically challenged vacation to the Caribbean, paid for by shady lobbyists whom he didn't bother to claim on his ethics disclosures:

P.P.P.S.  If you're still not convinced Rangel belongs on our list, please report to the third rail for free kool-aid.
