#9 Patriots Most Wanted: Grayson & Jackson Lee

We present to you our non-official "Top 10 Most Wanted" based on responses we've received from our readers; #1 being the worst offender in their opinion. This November will be pivotal and historic. While no incumbent should go unweeded, these notorious constitutional-offenders (and, in some cases, criminals) are worthy of national attention.

grayson_die_quicklyWho:     Alan Grayson
What:    US House of Representatives
Where:  8th Congressional District, Florida
When:   Since 2008
Why:
Still a freshman Congressman, Grayson has already had a lifetime's worth of controversies.  He called Linda Robertson, an advisor to Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke, a “K Street whore” on a radio interview.  He also appealed to Attorney General Eric Holder to prosecute a local blogger that was picking on him.  He gave a speech on the floor of the House where he stated that the Republican health care plan was to "die quickly".

It might be easier to let some of Grayson's Democrat colleagues speak for us on this issue:

  • There’s no call for that language. No call for it. That’s absurd. If he was standing here now, I’d say that to him,” said Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-N.J.)
  • Is this news to you that this guy’s one fry short of a Happy Meal?” asked Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.)
  • House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer defended Robertson, whom he said he knows. "I think it's inappropriate and unfair," the Maryland Democrat said. He decried the "heated rhetoric" that he said interferes with the ability solve problems.
  • Grayson, who is Jewish, later earned reproach from the Anti-Defamation League for referring to the health care system as a “holocaust in America.”
  • Democrat Dina Titus of Nevada called Grayson’s remarks “a bit extreme and rather sexist.”

 Quotes:

  • Before he was elected to Congress, his car sported a bumper sticker with the slogan "Bush Lied, People Died."
  • He called conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh a “has-been hypocrite loser” who “was more lucid when he was a drug addict.”
  • At a fundraiser with Vice President Joe Biden, Grayson said that former VP Dick Cheney "liked to shoot old men in the face" and invited Biden to "go water boarding with him."
  • On a Netroots Nation panel, he joked that his Republican opponent, former congressman Ric Keller, "did all his hiring at Hooters."
  • On attending a July 4th Tea Party, “Alan Grayson at a small-government rally is a bit like Paris Hilton at a MENSA meeting – it makes no sense whatsoever, but it sure would be fun to watch. Who’s bringing popcorn?” NRCC communications director Ken Spain, as quoted in a release.

leeWho:     Sheila Jackson Lee
What:    US House of Representatives
Where:  18th Congressional District, Texas
When:   Since 1995
Why:
A proud member of the Progressive Caucus and the Congressional Black Caucus, Jackson Lee knows how to get in the headlines. She was arrested with other congressional leaders for protesting outside the Sudanese embassy on behalf of Darfur in 2006.  She also became a youtube sensation after this video of her taking a cell phone call while listening to a cancer survivor speak at her own town hall meeting.  She was also one of five members of Congress that attended a Citigroup-funded junket to the Caribbean Island of St. Maartens after all 5 voted for TARP.

In 2003 she tried to sponsor a visit to the United States for Bashar al-Assad (the controversial president of Syria), despite his nation's classification as a "rogue state" and sponsor of terrorism.  This should give everyone a warm fuzzy feeling as she sits on both the House Foreign Affairs and Homeland Security committees.

She has voted:

  • against the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2001 texas18
  • against requiring hospitals to report (to the federal government) illegal aliens who receive emergency medical treatment
  • against the Real ID Act, which proposed to set minimal security requirements for state driver licenses and identification cards
  • against separate proposals calling for the construction of some 700 miles of fencing to prevent illegal immigration along America's southern border
  • against a proposal to grant state and local officials the authority to investigate, identify, and arrest illegal immigrants

From Project Vote Smart:

  • Representative Jackson Lee supported the interests of NARAL Pro-Choice America 100% in 2009.
  • Representative Jackson Lee supported the interests of the National Taxpayers Union 2% in 2009.
  • Representative Jackson Lee supported the interests of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) 100% 2007-2008.
  • In 2008 National Rifle Association (NRA) gave Representative Jackson Lee a grade of "F", in its scorecard for candidates seeking office in 2008.
